4 to Score!
Parents today spend less time with their children and face struggles to balance the demands of family and job. The unfortunate result is parents participate less in their children's lives. Yet, there is a greater need than ever for parents to be involved with their child, particularly in education.
We are very fortunate at Bennett Elementary to have wonderful volunteers, however, with the numerous cuts in funding our schools endure, your help is needed even more. As a result, we are starting a new program called 4 to Score!. This is a parent volunteer program designed to help schools, parents, and students through more parent involvement. The challenge - you participate by pledging 4 hours of time throughout the year to help a teacher. This can be in a variety of blocks of time to be less burdensome to you, but provide invaluable support - 1 hour a quarter, 4 hours in one quarter, etc.. Here are only a few ideas of activities: providing one-on-one with a student, help a teacher prepare/grade an assignment, teaching an activity/art project/craft to a class, help the class during library time, or monitor morning or afternoon recess or lunch. The time and activity is coordinated between you and the teacher.
Research clearly confirms that, regardless of the economic, racial, or cultural background of the family, when parents are partners in their children's eduation, the results are improved student achievement, better school attendance, reduced dropout rates, and decreased delinquency.
